Cookies

What the website stores in your browser, why, and how to change it. This notice is part of our Privacy Policy.

How the banner works

The first time you visit, a banner asks what you are happy with. Accept turns on analytics and advertising cookies. Essential only leaves both off. Your choice is remembered in your browser and applies across getsecondstep.com and its sections.

Until you choose, we apply Google's Consent Mode defaults: in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland nothing but essential storage runs; everywhere else analytics runs and advertising stays off. Advertising cookies never run anywhere until you accept them.

You can change your mind at any time with the Cookie settings link in the footer of every page.

Strictly necessary

Set by the site to remember your cookie choice or a form in progress. These cannot be turned off because the site does not work without them. The consent choice is stored in your browser for one year.

Analytics

Google Analytics 4 (_ga, _ga_*): counts visits, pages, and how you arrived. Two years. Microsoft Clarity (_clck, _clsk, CLID): records anonymised session replays and heatmaps so we can see where pages confuse people. One year. Both run only where analytics storage is allowed, which is after you accept in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, and by default elsewhere until you decline.

Advertising

Meta pixel (_fbp, _fbc): tells Meta which of our ads led to a visit or a form, so we stop paying for ads that do not work. Three months. It runs only after you accept, wherever you are.

Cookies we do not use

No third-party advertising networks other than Meta, no cross-site trackers, no fingerprinting, no chat widgets that set their own cookies.

Changing your choice

Click "Cookie settings" in the footer to reopen the banner and change your choice at any time. You can also block or delete cookies in your browser; the site keeps working, but we may show you the banner again. To opt out of Google Analytics across all sites, use Google's browser add-on. To opt out of Meta's ads personalisation, use your Meta ad preferences.

The tag setup, for the technically minded

Tags fire through Google Tag Manager with consent mode enabled. Analytics tags run in a cookieless, consent-denied state until you choose; the Meta pixel does not load at all until consent is granted where consent is required. Conversion events fire only on our thank-you pages, so your form submission is counted once.
